Interestingly, this marsh plant was in wooded forest. The
explanation could relate to soggy areas after spring melt or heavy
rainfall.

Common Horsetail
Equisetum arvense
Native Perennial. Also known as Field Horsetail
Common Horsetail, Equisetum arvense, grows in moist to
wet woods, meadows, and swamps.
Close-Up of the above horsetail. The zig-zag
shape to the stems is because of the jointed
stems. When enlarged, you can see a few places
suggestive of the whorled leaves being wrapped around
stems.
This plant growing in a marshy area is probably Common
(Field) Horsetail, but its stems are unusually long and
curved.
